Thursday entertainment guide grows young reader group
Article Abstract:
The Houston Chronicle started a marketing campaign to promote its Thursday entertainment guide called Preview. The campaign used materials aimed at encouraging a growth in readership among 18- to 34-year-olds while maintaining the newspaper's current readership base. The response from new readers and advertisers increased brought about by the style, color scheme and delivery of the campaign. It included everything, from field marketing to personal interaction, distribution of samples and radio spots.

A banner idea

So successful was the online banner advertising program of The Herald- Times that the newspaper now has a waiting list. The Herald-Times sells banner ads for general rotation throughout the more than 100,000 pages on its Web site and also offers section sponsor banners that remain in a fixed position in section of the portal. Prices range from $99 a month for a display banner that rotates on all pages of the site, $166 for a section sponsor and $266 for a Web site co-sponsor.
