A New York bull holds off encroaching bearishness
Article Abstract:
Technical indicators for Wall Street give the idea that stocks are overvalued, but there have been good results from cyclical companies. This has led to a rise in stock prices for cyclicals as investors move away from growth stocks. Such a shift was not easy to forecast, so this could strengthen arguments for using index trackers. US economic growth has continued, and this has helped the performance of cyclical stocks. Internet stocks are also attracting a great deal of interest.

Article Abstract:
Fund managers have to balance the long term liklihood that equities will perform well against possible short term setbacks which can damage overall returns. There are advantages in keeping investments in cash vehicles and waiting for the right time to invest, though many institutions do not permit fund managers to do this. Wall Street has performed well and could continue to do so. There are possible dangers from the US dollar and trade deficit, and interest rates could also be raised. Stocks still offer attractions, despite the need to be cautious.
