Seven trade magazines are recognized for their impact on business-to-business marketing. Marketers surveyed said that the most important factors in determining a trade magazine's value are editorial quality, circulation and reaching key decisionmakers. Featured titles include 'Builder' from Hanley-Wood, 'Chemical Week' from Chemical Week Associates and 'CIO' from CIO Communications. Also recognized were 'EE Times' and Information Week' from CMP Media, 'PC Week' from Ziff-Davis and 'Successful Farming' from Meredith Corp.

High-tech publishers remain undaunted by Asian economic situation
Article Abstract:
A number of computer magazine publishers are blaming the economic downturn in Asia for the lackluster performance of print advertising revenues. However, there has been growth in the US and European ad markets so the Asian situation cannot be entirely responsible for this poor showing. While the Asian situation may have contributed to the reduction in print advertising, the Internet is to blame for a large portion of this loss revenues as advertisers utilize the Web in their campaigns.

With deals, Krakoff sees Advanstar advancing right on plan
Article Abstract:
Advanstar Communications CEO Bob Krakoff's master strategy for the firm has begun to produce results. Advanstar, which publishes over 80 trade publications and operates 100 trade shows, has forged six deals since Jan. 28, 1998. Three of these deals involved acquisitions of other firms and the rest involved joint ventures. The deals are designed to transform the company from a business publisher and trade show organizer into an integrated marketing enterprise.
