Training for total quality
Article Abstract:
Some 14,000 companies offer training in the UK, and there are also 81 Training and Enterprise Councils (TECs), with 24 Local Enterprise Councils (LECs). The industry is worth some 20 billion pounds sterling annually. The Institute for Personnel Development was set up in 1994 from the merger of two organizations. The TEC National Council has promoted a program called Investors in People, but there have beeninvestigations into funds chaneled to TECs, and spending is more closely scrutinised.

Article Abstract:
Many employees have been made redundant in the UK recession of the early 1990s and more are likely to follow due to changes in the banking industry in 1995. Services offered to the unemployed include skill training and provision of facilities such as libraries and secretarial support. There is also aid for those who seek to set up new businesses, and help for spouses of people who have been relocated which is provided by the UK Ministry of Defence for employees' partners.
