Tread carefully to ensure success
Article Abstract:
Outsourcing can result in redundancies, and employers should provide compensation and outplacement help to maintain morale among staff who are retained. Employment conditions of staff should not deteriorate as a result of outsourcing. Staff may find their career prospects improve through being transferred to a company that is outsourcing and which specialises in their field. Their prospects in lines of work such as catering would have been more limited as part of a small department than with a specialist company.

Outplacement services: what they offer
Article Abstract:
Outplacement services are increasingly used by employers as restructuring becomes more common, with attendant job losses. The service provides career counselling and helps ex-employees find new work. Some 140 companies offer these services in the UK. There is no body which enforces standards in the UK and is generally recognised, though the Association of Outplacing Consulting Firms International has ten member consultants operating in the UK. Some companies are not members of any professional body.

The ins and outs of executive recruitment
Article Abstract:
Some 700 executive recruitment firms operate in the UK, and the number has doubles in the decade to 1995. Delayering has led to increased use of consultants, and they can provide anonymity. Few consultants deal in posts attracting a salary of under 50,000 pounds sterling. Fees depend on the first year's wages of the executive. Executive recruitment can attract people who have lost jobs due to recession and most of those operating in the sector have a sales or general management background.
