UK: LAUNCH OF NEW HERBAL REMEDIES RANGE

A range of five new herbal products is being introduced by Herbal Concepts and will be backed by a GB[pound] 500,000 advertising campaign in spring 2000. The new products focus on daily fatigue, period pain weight loss, rheumatic pain relief and asthma and catarrh relief. More products will be launched in March 2000 to deal with complaints such as constipation, colds and indigestion.

The main areas of growth within the sector are said to be for slimming aids such as Slim-Fast, vitamins and minerals which have annual sales of around GB[pound] 340mn, and products to either stay awake or fall asleep, for example Pro Plus and Nytol respectively.

UK: INCREASE IN FLU REMEDY SALES

Sales of flu remedies in the UK have increased, according to supermarkets, as a result of the outbreak of flu cases. The UK supermarkets Sainsbury's and Somerfield said sales of flu remedies for the four weeks to 7 January 2000 were up 75% and 100% respectively compared to the same period in 1999.
