UK: NEW CHINESE RANGE FROM ORIENTAL EXPRESS
Article Abstract:
Oriental Express is due to launch a new range of Chinese frozen ready meals called Oriental Express Takeaway at the beginning of December 1999. Portions will be larger than in a standard ready meal. The range will be promoted by a cartoon Chinese character which is a combination of Fred the Homepride cartoon and the ravenous animal Perpami. Oriental Express already boasts a 38.2% share of the GB[pound] 80.6mn Chinese market well ahead of rival Crosse & Blackwell with 17.6%. Oriental hopes to capture business from people who frequent Cbinese take-away restaurants by offering a cheaper alternative.
