US headache as boss quits
Article Abstract:
The Body Shop head of US operations, Steen Kanter, has resigned, and this has led to speculation that the company could sell its US stores. Volume sales at the US stores have been dropping by some 5% yearly, which led to a 3 million pounds sterling loss for 1997, with no improvement forecast for 1998. Selling stores to franchisees may not be an option since the company has had to purchase 25 stores from franchisees due to their poor trading performance. The company's stock price has dropped to almost the lowest levels for a decade.
