Wall Street: tech tensions
Article Abstract:
High technology shares have risen rapidly in value in the US, since this is seen as a growth market, but there are also risks involved. Corporate spending on computers may cease to rise as rapidly, while consumers may delay buying new equipment in the hope that prices will drop if they wait. There has been a general fall in high-technology share prices after profit warnings led to a drop in the price of Cirrus Logic and Novell shares. Speculation has pushed up the price of US high-tech stocks, according to Barton Biggs from Morgan Stanley.

Tech sector for London
Article Abstract:
The London Stock Exchange will establish a technology share sector and index, including shares from a number of other sectors. A proposal is being developed by FTSE International which deals with classifying shares. There is a debate as to whether biotechnology companies should be included or whether the focus should be on information technology. The aim is to attract international investors. Technology shares are in the same group in other markets such as the US.
