Warning! High income ahead
Article Abstract:
Investments offering high incomes could mean that the investor's capital is being eroded. Investors may not only be living off their capital, but also have to pay tax the the privilege. Investment returns come from capital growth or from income such as dividends. Inflation can erode capital. Investors also tend to have to trade off capital growth for a high income, or vice versa, but both are rarely attainable. Small banks tend to offer the best rates for deposit accounts, but some of these banks have collapsed, and there are limits on compensation guarantees.
