What is wrong with the World Wide Web?: a diagnosis of some problems and prescription of some remedies
Article Abstract:
A survey of the preferences and problems of users of the World Wide Web shows that techniques that improve users' knowledge and ability to select and search web sites increase their satisfaction. The speed of accessing sites and locating specific knowledge are the most important considerations for the users. A menu containing a list of all the search tools will increase user satisfaction. A standard language for the tools and guidelines for their usage will improve the search process.

A response to John Dowell and John Long, 'Conception of the cognitive engineering design problem.' (in this issue, p. 126)
Article Abstract:
The concept of an engineering design proposed by John Dowell and John Long provides a better understanding of engineering design. They offer insights for improving the design process and a framework for the formulation of engineering design. However, it also has its weaknesses, such as their perception of the importance of cognition in the usage of technology and in consideration of the engineering process itself.
