When drop-outs turn into star performers
Article Abstract:
Stock prices can be analysed in order to beat the performance of the FTSE 100 stock price index. Stock prices tend to perform well three months prior to joining the index, since they are purchased by tracker funds, and they then tend to underperform for a quarter. Stocks also perform poorly before leaving the index since they are sold by tracker funds, and they may then recover from overselling. A purchase of such stocks 13 weeks after they are deleted may result in a strong gain.
