When spam is not spam
Article Abstract:
The International Data Group (IDG) continues to receive carping remarks from those who do not want 'spam' or unsolicited e-mail, despite measures done by the IDG List Services led by Deb Goldstein, to safeguard the e-mail lists from unethical end-users. Goldstein did a survey addressed to subscribers of Java World and Sunworld Online asking them if they want to receive third-party e-mail. About 20% chose to be out of the e-mail program. At present, anti- spamming laws are being passed. Goldstein, however, believes that e-mail, though becoming a problem, can be sent in an ethical but lucrative way.
