AOL, Time Warner call time on internet stocks
Article Abstract:
The planned takeover by America Online (AOL) of Time Warner shows that content is esepcially important over the long term. AOL is paying a 70% premium, and has twice the market capitalization of Time Warner, though is asking for 55% of the two companies combined. The deal shows both that the media sector is undervalued, and that internet stocks are volatile. The internet functions as a distribution platform which will benefit established brands. Media companies are now less likely to spinn off internet businesses.
