Women's place in space exploration
Article Abstract:
The crews in long-duration space mission should comprise mainly of women, according to the philosophical approach to selection, as women are more equipped to deal with stress. An experimental study of small groups under stimulated space stress conditions shows that women astronauts can positively enhance intra-group relations under conditions of stress. However, in space ventures problems arise due to women astronauts' complex social role. The selection must consider the problem areas, such as the space ship crew, the Space Mission Control Center and the astronauts' families that concern women.

The origin of the smaller, faster, cheaper approach in NASA's solar system exploration program
Article Abstract:
NASA'S shift to the smaller, faster and cheaper (SFC) approach for the exploration of the solar system is a result of several factors. These include the space scientists' need for more frequent missions, the bad publicity experienced by NASA in the early 1990s, the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization's and the National Space Council's need to push through the Space Exploration Initiative, and the effective leadership of NASA Administrator Daniel Goldin.

China's space policy: review and prospects
Article Abstract:
China's space policy is linked with other policies such as strategic nuclear deterrence and the domestic economy. The country's space programme was developed alone, but it now lacks the finance and technology required to develop the programme on its own. Its space activities are becoming more commercial and this, together with joint ventures with foreign companies, will be significant in the further development of its space programme.
