The word processing package WORD from Microsoft has many desirable features such as checking the entire document for errors, a dictionary, the use of a mouse and a screen with up to eight windows, ability to edit text, efficient formatting options, a convenient way of storing and retrieving files, line spacing within the paragraph, and the ability to create document files and send standard letters to a list of addressees. Overall, the program is flexible and can handle a variety of tasks. However, it fails to give line and column counts and lacks macros for carrying out a series of operations automatically. At 400 pounds sterling for IBM applications and 175 pounds for Apple applications the WORD microcomputer program receives a high rating from the reviewer.

After testing, the JVC Camcorder model GR-C7E video camera (available from JVC UK Ltd., the British subsidiary of the Victor Company of Japan) receives an excellent rating for its sound and picture quality, portability, and ease of operation. The camera costs 1,300 pounds sterling and weighs 1.8 kilograms (or 5.5 kilograms when assembled for operation with power packs, cables, and adaptors). Although the JVC Camcorder offers manual operation to the expert cameraperson, its automatic features include: zoom capabilities, fade-in and fade-out, an omnidirectional microphone, and automatic light adjustment. The average tape for the recorder offers 30 minutes of recording time at normal speeds, and can be viewed on any VHS recorder.

Equinet Computers' Office Works is designed for managing communications and appointments for individuals or whole networks. The program includes a document control file, name and address file, electronic mail system, and diary. The electronic mail system features an automatic time-stamp, archives, telephone message screen, and security system. The electronic diary includes a pop-up calendar and automatic chronological organization of items. The program exhibits some technological restrictions of portability, but its is flexible enough to be adapted. Office Works is a set of DataFlex application programs requiring 640Kb RAM and a hard disk drive.
