Young sees possible link between Marine One, Air Force choppers
Article Abstract:
John Young, assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development and acquisition voiced the opinion that commonalities between the Marine One helicopter to be acquired by the Marine Corps and the combat search and rescue helicopter proposed by the Air Force in terms of avionics, engines and defensive systems can be used to create a derivative of the presidential helicopter that can serve the needs of the Air Force rescue vehicle. Though the contract award for the presidential transport mission with the team of Lockheed Martin Corp., Bell Helicopter Textron and Agusta Westland competing against Sikorsky has been delayed, the Air Force is set to start source selection for the personnel recovery helicopter in 2006.
