Calorimetric measurements of the heat of adsorption of benzene on Pt(111)

Article Abstract:

Sticking probabilities of benzene on Pt(111) were measured by mass spectroscopy, giving an initial value of 0.97 and showing Kisliuk-type behavior with increasing coverage that implies there is a precursor to sticking with a ratio of its desorption rate of ~28. The heat of adsorption of benzene on Pt(111) at 300 K is found to be [197-48theata-83theata(super 2)] kj/mol, where theta is the fractional coverage of the surface by benzene.

Adsorption energies, inter-adsorbate interactions, and the two binding sites within benzene on Ag(111)

Article Abstract:

The characterization of the adsorption of monolayer and multilayer benzene on the Ag(111) using programmed desorption (TPD) is presented. The TDP spectra displayed two broad peaks at ~205 and ~150 Kelvin at submonolayer coverage, which suggest repulsive interactions among the adsorbed molecule, and a sharper, multilayer peak at 140 Kelvin.

Adsorption of benzene on a Mo(112)-c(2 X 2)-[SiO]4 surface

Article Abstract:

High-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS), Auger spectroscopy (AES) and low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) were used to investigate the orientation and growth of benzene and pyridine on a well ordered Mo(112)-c(2 X 2)-[SiO]4. The origin for unusual adsorption behavior of benzene is discussed.
