Dielectric medium effects on collective surface plasmon coupling interactions in oligothiophene-linked gold nanoparticles
Article Abstract:
The near-field coupling interactions between surface plasmon modes of neighboring metal nanoparticles (NPs) are examined in thin films of oligothiphene-linked Au NPs. The surface plasmon resonance (SPR) coupling between NPs is found to be highly dependent on the dielectric constant of the medium that the films are exposed to, where a higher dielectric medium leads to weaker coupling.

Electronic and geometric properties of Au nanoparticles on Highly Ordered Pyrolytic Graphite (HOPG) studied using X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM)
Article Abstract:
Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) are used to study the Au nanoparticles grown on mildly sputtered Highly Ordered Pyrolytic Graphite (HOPG) surfaces. The results show that the particle growth at room temperature is highly affected by kinetic factors and also explains the existence of many steps between the different Au atomic layers.
