Discriminating crystal binding from the atomic trapping of a core electron at energy levels shifted by surface relaxation or nanosolid formation

Article Abstract:

A method was developed based on the atomic-coordination-atomic-radius correlation to determine the core-level energies of an isolated atom and the crystal-binding intensities of the core electrons at energy levels shifted by bulk formation, surface relaxation, or nanosolid formation. The developed method provided comprehensive information about the behavior of electrons in the deeper shells of an isolated atom and the influence of crystal formation.

Fluorescent crystalloluminescence of N-isopropylcarbazole

Article Abstract:

A very bright visible luminescence from N-isopropylcarbazole (NIPCz) is observed when the compound crystallizes from the molten state to a crystalline aggregate. The mechanism leading to crystalloluminescence (XTL) is discussed in detail on the basis of available models and a valid explanation for XTL could be provided by riboluminescence mechanisms.

Real-space surface crystallography from ion scattering

Article Abstract:

The scattering and recoiling imaging spectrometry (SARIS) technique and the type of information it can provide is presented. A battery of surface analysis technique is developed for studying the composition and structure of the surface layers of materials but was invaluable in advancing the field of surface science.
