Hemicyanine dye as a surfactant for the synthesis of bicontinuous cubic mesostructured silica
Article Abstract:
An efficient synthesis route that could easily produce high-quality MCM-48 at room temperature by using a hemicyanine dye-cetyltrimethylammonium bromide mixture as the structure-directing agent is presented. The result show that, upon addition of the dye surfactant to the starting mixtures, the mesostructured silica undergoes an intrinsic phase-transition process, however, specific dye geometry is required to obtain MCM-48 at room temperature.

Silica nanocoils
Article Abstract:
The results of nanoparticle-catalyzed synthesis of a variety of silica nanocoils (SiNCs) under similar growth conditions to those of making regular straight silica/silicon nanowires(SiNWs) are reported. The results suggest that the same nanoparticle could be responsible for the growth of straight SiNWs and SiNCs at two different temperatures.
