Heterogeneous reactions of sulfur dioxide on typical mineral particles
Article Abstract:
The heterogenous reaction of SO2 on [Al.sub.2][O.sub.3], CaO, Ti[O.sub.2], MgO, FeOOH, [Fe.sub.2][O.sub.3], and Si[O.sub.2], as well as authentic aerosol sample is investigated using a White Cell coupled with a in situ-FTIR and Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transform Spectroscopy (DRIFTS). To obtain full information on the mechanism and kinetics of the reactions, simultaneous observations of reactants and products are performed.

Article Abstract:
Acetate Zn-HDS is formed after the addition of LiOH.H2O into the ethanolic Zn precursor solution and can transform into the ZnO phase in an acetate-containing solution during the sol-gel synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles. The conclusion states that the transformation of Zn-HDS to ZnO nanocrystals can be accelerated by ultrasonic irradiation and increase of temperature.
