Inhibition of cluster phenomena in truly water soluble fullerene derivatives: bimolecular electron and energy transfer processes
Article Abstract:
A series of bis-functionalized fullerene derivatives were investigated with light- and radical-induced studies and compared to ((super 3)C(sub 60)C(COO(super -))(sub 2))(sub n). Results provided evidence that they were monomeric in aqueous media. Analysis of their water-soluble malonic acid diethyl ester derivatives precursors showed that the functionalization of C60 results in a perturbation of the pi-systems of the fullerenes. It was also demonstrated that the degree of perturbation, relative to C60, intensified with increasing number of functionalizing addends.

Study of aggregates of fullerene-based ionomers in aqueous solutions using small angle neutron and X-ray scattering
Article Abstract:
A study on C60 fullerenes and fullerene derivatives was conducted to investigate structures and aggregation behavior of a starlike ionomer, C60[(CH2)nSO3Na]6 with n=4 in water solutions. Small angle neutron scattering and small angle X-ray scattering techniques were employed in the study. Interparticle interactions between the aggregates of star ionomers were observed that proved to be much weaker and insensitive to the temperature change for the concentrations investigated. Other findings are discussed.

Metallophthalocyanines: Versatile electron-donating building blocks for fullerene dyads
Article Abstract:
A thorough investigation on the physiochemical properties, including electrochemisty and photophysics, of a new class of donor-acceptor hybrids, namely, phyhalocyanine-fullerene dyads, consisting of free base and zinc and copper complexes, respectively is conducted. This brings new insights into the stabilization of charge-separated radical ion pairs and the impact of redoxactive transition-metal centrs on the photoperformance of macrocyclic phythalocyanines.
