Structure and dynamics of acetonitrile at the air/liquid interface of binary solutions studied by infrared-visible sum

Article Abstract:

The infrared-visible sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy was employed to investigate the molecular level details of acetonitrile (CH3CN) at the air/liquid interface of binary solutions with pre-deuterated acetonitrile (CD3CN), water, and carbon tetrachloride (CCL4). It was found that CH3CN molecules in CH3CN-CD3CN mixtures exhibit a concentration independent orientation similar to those in neat CH3CN.

Platinum monolayer electrocatalysts for O2 reduction: Pt monolayer on Pd(111) and on carbon-supported Pd nanoparticles

Article Abstract:

The kinetics of oxygen reduction is studied in acid solutions on Pt monolayers deposited on a Pd(111) surface and on carbon-supported Pd nanoparticles using the rotating disk-ring electrode technique. A small but significant enhancement with Pt monolayers on Pd(111) and Pd nanoparticle surfaces in comparison with the reaction on Pt(111) and Pt nanoparticles is observed by the kinetics of O2 reduction.
