The fat torus scenario
Article Abstract:
Experiments were conducted to investigate the dynamics of peroxidase-oxidase reactions in NADH. The kinetics of mixed-mode oscillations (MMOs) in the peroxidase enzyme was measured under pH values greater than 5.4. Transitional regions in the BFSO reaction were also examined. Homoclinic transitions from secondary quasiperiodicity to chaos were observed and attributed to alterations in the equilibrium concentration of oxygen in the reaction. The findings indicated a three-dimensional motion for the peroxidase-oxidase process.

Nonlinear dynamics of the peroxidase-oxidase reaction: I. Bistability and bursting oscillations at low enzyme concentrations
Article Abstract:
The horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-catalysed peroxidase-oxidase (PO) reaction under CSTR or semibatch conditions yields a wide range of nonlinear dynamical behaviours. The inability of BFSO reaction model mechanism to address the problems of inducing bistability and bursting at low enzyme concentrations are discussed.
