US: THE INK BOUGHT BY FLINT INK

The Ink Co, a West Sacramento, California-based producer of inks for newspaper, heatset, sheet offset and packaging printing, has been taken over by Ann Arbor, Michigan-based Flint Ink. The latter produces sheet and rotary offset, flexo and rotogravure printing inks in about 100 factories worldwide. With about 3,200 staff, it generated a turnover of about US 1bn in 1998.

Members of senior management of Borden Chemical are seeking to take over the Cincinnati-based printing ink business of the company. To that effect they have set up a new company called Color Resolutions International LLC, backed by Stonehenge Partners Inc. Borden Chemical supplies printing inks for the paper and plastic packaging industries.

Mueller Ink, a family enterprise based in Cincinnati, Ohio, and specialist for sheet offset printing inks, has been bought by Superior Printing Ink, the seventh-biggest printing ink manufacturer in the US.
