Gearing up for training; the nuts and bolts of CBT authoring
Article Abstract:
Computer-Based Training (CBT) authoring packages allow for straight forward presentations, as well as interactive capabilities. CBT authoring packages can be manipulated to fit the requirements of both teacher and student. They offer students a realistic, simulated learning environment, while providing teachers with a means of evaluating student responses. CBT programs allow for the integration of text, graphics, sound, animation and video. Major considerations in choosing a CBT Authoring Software are presented in a table representing more than 85% of the market. The table is divided by price into high- and low-end products. The first half of the table lists CBT authoring software which costs less than $1.000, and the second ranges up to $5,770. The CBT authoring packages included in the table rank highest in market share and user acceptance.

Web authoring moves beyond HTML
Article Abstract:
Multimedia on the World Wide Web is becoming more possible. HTML 3.0 does support some limited animation, although more power is being gained by including readers or players with Web browsers that can interpret helper files that are embedded in the HTML pages. An example is Macromedia's Director playback engine, which will be integrated into the Netscape Navigator Web browser. The new version of Netscape will stream animation and audio files to permit them to be played before the entire file is downloaded. The actual movie will be embedded in the HTML document. Macromedia plans to release new XObjects and Lingo commands that will allow developers to call HTML for these types of applications. Users will initially be limited to small movies, and movies will have to be segmented for faster delivery.
