Back-to-school days
Article Abstract:
The increasing demand for web application developers can be addressed by having employees take online courses in such new skills as electronic commerce and JavaScript. Internet consultant and Ziff-Davis University instructor Seth Kusiak says web developers needing to upgrade their skills have no time for traditional classes, and online classes allow them to log on at their convenience. Among the organizations offering online courses are the University of California at Berkeley, ARIS, New Horizons University, DigitalThink and O'Reilly Web-Based Training. Kusiak says electronic commerce requires knowledge of Active Server pages and database design. DigitalThink tutor Shawn Scott says basic skills include PERL, CGI scripting, Java, SQL and ActiveX.

Five myths that could kill e-commerce
Article Abstract:
Presented are five myths regarding electronic commerce. The first is that people desire unlimited choice. The second is that amazing technology is best, when service is what is needed. Thirdly, the desire to offer a little of everything will kill sites, as buyers want expertise. The last two myths involve the focus of selling rather than establishing a customer base, and the belief that online users do not want to deal with real people.
