ChemUSA ChemBook 2600: more than you bargained for
Article Abstract:
Chem USA's $2,200 ChemBook 2600 notebook computer sports a 120MHz Pentium processor, 8MB of EDO RAM (that can be upgraded to 128 MB), a memory cache of 256KB, a 10x CD-ROM, a TVT active matrix SVGA display measuring 12.1 inches, and an internal 33.6-Kbps fax/voice modem. The system features preinstalled Windows 95 and a NiMH battery with an optional lithium-ion battery. On the whole, the ChemBook 2600 was impressive for its clear, bright screen with 800x600 resolution and its number of features for only $2,200. The machine has an 86-key keyboard with two Windows keys and twelve half-sized function keys. Also, the notebook features a GlidePoint touchpad pointer, with two control buttons to support drag-and-drop operations. Although the machine does not come with MMX, it supports 16-bit stereo 3-D surround sound and is compatible with SoundBlaster Pro and MS Sound System. Chem USA says it can easily upgrade its notebooks to MMX, for those feeling limited by the generic Pentium installation.
