Computer service providers are taking steps to differentiate uptime guarantees of their high availability services to reach serious service customers. For example, Hewlett-Packard Co is developing processes and technologies aimed at establishing an uptime guarantee of 'five nines', or 99.999%. Another company, Compaq Computer Corp, is offering new high availability service with its pair of uptime guarantees covering ProLiant clusters of 99.5%-99.9%.

Wang goes global
Article Abstract:
Wang Global has significantly expanded its geographic coverage with the acquisition of Italy-based Olivetti SpA's OLSY computer service unit. The acquisition will make Wang a $3.6 billion global provider of desktop and network services. Under the deal, OLSY will be folded into Wang, which in turn will give 18.6% of its stock to Olivetti. OLSY is a leading multivendor service provider, with over 12,000 employees and operations in over 40 countries.
