Article Abstract:
Several large high-technology corporations are pooling their expertise to provide the Los Angeles Olympic Organization Committee and the Olympic games with the latest information and communication equipment. AT&T's Olympic network is a combination of an electronic messaging system (EMS) and voice communications. The EMS consists of 1700 AT&T Teletype 5410 terminals, 300 Teletype printers, and 14 3B20S computers. International Telex services, radio paging, and audio-video signal transmission for satellite broadcasting are all linked to AT&T's fiber optic Digital Television Light Wave System. Sports events results will be reproduced on 350 Xerox copiers and forty-five electronic printers and transmitted on Xerox Telecopier 295 facsimile equipment.
