Field-use instruments check phone base stations
Article Abstract:
Kikusui Electronics Corp.'s CPM20 and CPM46 multiple-function measuring devices are used for constructing and maintaining mobile phone base stations as well as commercial microwave stations. The lightweight instruments integrate a microwave frequency counter, a power meter and a digital DC voltmeter for determining automatic gain control voltage. The CPM20, which is priced at $10,423, works at 10 to 20 GHz, whereas the $13,944-worth CPM46 device functions at 10 to 46 GHz. Another feature is the reference oscillator that does not need pre-heating, thus enhancing efficiency and lessens battery consumption.

Integrated DVD mechanism adopts 2-beam pickup
Article Abstract:
Alps Electric Co. Ltd.'s DYPA series of DVD player mechanisms incorporate drives, servos and DVD and CD decoding features. The DVD mechanisms also has pickups covering wavelengths of 650nm and 780nm, ensuring signal reproduction from recordable and rewritable CDs. The DYPA line also has extremely precise mechanical adjustments and learning servo features. A constant linear velocity and a 2x-speed reproduction are used for DVDs, while a constant angular velocity and a 2x-speed reproduction is used for CDs.
