Hitachi: Lightweight terminals dish out heavy-duty performance

Hitachi Home Electronics (America) Inc. is introducing several new handheld computers. Hitachi's HPW-20E8M runs with an 80MHz SuperH SH3 32-bit RISC processor. It has a 7.1-inch monochrome LCD and touch panel that shows 16 levels of gray scale. Hitachi's HPW-200EC delivers 100MHz performance and includes a 16MB RAM with a hot-start program. Its monitor is 8.1 inches diagonally with 640x240-dot color images. The VisionBook Traveler notebook from Hitachi PC Corp. includes a 133MHz Intel Pentium MMX CPU. Its monitor is an 8.4-inch active-matrix thin-film transistor LCD which shows 640x480 dots and 256 colors.

Pentium-drive POS terminals withstand rigors of tough business settings

Mustek Corp exhibited its latest line of point-of-sale (POS) terminals that operate using Pentium CPU-driven personal computers at CeBIT '99 in Hannover, Germany, from Mar 18, 1999 to Mar 24, 1999. The TP3000, which operates using a 100MHz Pentium CPU, is capable of running with either UNIX, Windows or DOS text systems. The TP3100 has a 166MHz Pentium CPU while the TP3200 has a 64MB synchronous DRAM in addition to a 166MHz Pentium CPU.
