LIPS III, Ethernet systems let printer serve in large networks

Canon Inc. offers the LBP-3960 heavy-duty 300dpi page printer that features its Laser beam Image Processing System (LIPS) III, which has the reputation as a page description language (PDL). Aside from conforming to Ethernet 10BaseT network standards, the LBP-3960 produces 60ppm when working with A4 documents and is available for 1.65 million yen ($12,313). The product makes use of the LIPS-III PDL to pave the way for a distributed printing environment. Meanwhile, the LBP-3960 Model 3, which features a mainframe interface controller 3, sells for 2.05 million yen ($15,298).

Canon intensifies response to color printer progress

Canon Inc has released its latest LBP-2040 full-shot color printer as part of the Color Laser Shot LBP-2160 printers. The A-4 paper compatible model uses Canon's proprietary oil-free technology to perform double-sided full color printing. LBP-2040 also adopts an intermediate color processing technology to fix four colors of toner simultaneously. Canon said that it holds a 60% share of Japan's color printer market and is aiming to take a 50% share of the global market, which is projected to reach 1.5 million to 2 million units in 2002.

Network printer offers 20ppm output

Ricoh Co., Ltd. has released its PC-Laser NX-510 A3 network printer with the new 20ppm engine. The printer, priced at 198,000 yen ($1,559), is capable of printing graphics at a rate that is faster by 40% compared to the firm's previous model, the NX-500, a feat made possible with the use of Ricoh's newly developed rapid graphics processing commands. The printer, which can be used for fast computer-aided design (CAD) output, also has macro cache features that enables it to further increase its printing speed.
