Management Perspective: Office Security
Article Abstract:
Security problems with employees are both disturbing and serious. With the advent of computers, the maintenance of security becomes increasingly difficult. A mail and files supervisor at Titanic Industries sold key reports and secrets to a competitor for twenty years before being discovered, while an accounts payable manager embezzled money. The managers of security and human resources must work together and enforce strict policies to prevent further incidents. A smooth procedure should be enforced when firing a trusted employee. Security with regard to strategic information must be tightened. More intense forms of screening and training for applicants must be followed.

Management Perspective: Office Security
Article Abstract:
After AT&T is broken up, communication systems users will lose Bell's formerly comprehensive response to disasters. Bell was able to respond quickly because they provided both the equipment and the service and had the staff to handle emergencies. Because the customer leased the equipment, Bell would replace equipment quickly so payments would not be interrupted. Now users must secure a contract for disaster services and make their own disaster plan. Users should check contracts very carefully for vendor obligations.

Office Security: the Background Investigation of a Job Applicant Should Be Based on the Sensitivity of the Position
Article Abstract:
The degree of sensitivity of the position being applied for should determine the depth of the background investigation made on the applicant. The amount of control the position gives over corporate assets will determine its sensitivity. Management should indicate to the applicant immediately that an investigation will be conducted and the applicant should sign an authorization agreeing to the investigation.
