Article Abstract:
As the personal computer (PC) industry matures, distribution channels will shift from retail outlets to direct purchase arrangements with manufacturers and distributors. Business purchases of networked PCs will require technical support and imply large purchase discounts that retailers cannot offer. Similarly, many PCs require specialized technical services and aftermarket support. Direct vendor-buyer relationships will enable vendors to control the profits and products in these specialized markets. Long term buyer-seller relationships also benefit the buyer in enabling system upgrading or expansion without fear of obsolescence or incompatability.

Expert systems help with decision making. Several are now availble. Natural language allows users more flexibility in interacting with the computers.
