Computer Associates International Inc's (CA) $9-billion takeover attempt of El Segundo, CA-based services firm Computer Sciences Corp (CSC) shows that information technology businesses cannot survive on product alone. Islandia, NY-based CA may have ceased its pursuit of CSC, but the takeover battle that ensued between the two companies indicates the need to offer services to assist customers in integrating and using complex software products.

Computervision looks at new investor for its hardware services unit
Article Abstract:
Computervision Corp has announced its plans to spin off its Open Service Solutions business unit and operate it jointly with a new investor. Computervision said that it will sell 51% of its division to investment management firm M.D. Sass Investors Services Inc for $30 million in cash and $25 million in preferred note. Under the deal, the division will operate independently from Computervision under the name CV Services International.

CA stays hot on services trail

Islandia, NY-based software giant Computer Associates International Inc has acquired LDA Systems Inc, an information technology consulting firm based in Cleveland, OH. LDA Systems, which had revenues of $25 million in 1997 and has 300 employees, will be integrated to Computer Associates' fledgling Global Professional Services Div. It will also continue to operate out of its existing facilities.
