With the installation of a computer system at the law firm of Andrews and Kurth, has come an increase in the opportunities for promotion of the clerical staff. The system consists of several types of Xerox equipment including Xerox 8010 Star information systems, Xerox 860 processing systems, and a Xerox Ethernet local area network. A word processing operator can draft initial contracts, calculate and prepare royalty payments, and do other time saving tasks. By mastering these responsibilities, a staff member can earn the title of paralegal assistant.

The CO-OP system from McDonnell Douglas Automation Company has been integrated with the existing network at the Hartford Life Insurance Group for the management of office supplies and insurance forms. The system facilitates automated ordering, reordering distribution, and inventory control. CO-OP also cuts down on staff and inventory investment requirements. Orders are placed through regional office terminals while warehouse terminals locate stock and input delivery information. Central supply terminals answer inquiries, among other tasks.
