Systems in Action: In-House COM System Aids Efficiency During Job Placement Process by Providing Faster, Less Expensive Service
Article Abstract:
The South Carolina Employment Security Commission (ESC) saved time and money by switching to Computer Output Microfilm (COM). The money saved paid for the transition in less than two years. In addition, the ESC is able to keep up daily with new job opportunities. Hand-held microfiche readers are used instead of bulky stacks of computer printouts. The ESC is almost entirely independent, producing and distributing its own microfiche. Other governmental agencies are looking into the example set by the ESC.
