The entertainment industry uses various approaches in providing their employees with the training they need in information technology (IT). For example, Burbank, CA-based Warner Music's IT training includes instructor- led and hands on, corporate intranet, CD-ROMs as well as outside sources to teach vendor-specific applications. Likewise, Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc will start its IT training program in Feb 1999 supported by a library full of CD-ROM and CBT-based courses as well as videos.

Navigating WBT as netscape Web-ifies its strategy

Netscape Communications Corp. has tapped Saba Software to create a Web-based enterprise training management system. Netscape has used Saba's Education Management System (EMS) for its internal workers in 1998, and will launch the system to its customers in May 1999. Saba Software's EMS is an enterprise training application suite with different education modules including assessment, delivery, ROI and tracking.

Microsoft hits $55 million loan mark, revamps training logo
Article Abstract:
Microsoft Corp has provided more than $55 million in loan as part of its Skills 2000 IT Career Loan Program. The loans are used to finance technical training at any of the 900 Microsoft's Authorized Academic Technical Education Centers and more than 1,000 Microsoft Academic Training Programs. The company said total loans are expected to reach more than $76 million for 1998.
