Article Abstract:
The UK government is privatising the maintenance branch of its building agency Property Services Agency (PSA) Building Management in Sep 1993. There are over 70 bidders. The building agent's design consultancy was sold to Tarmac in Dec 1992. Tarmac took on 1,390 staff, 530 of which were on secondment. Flexi-time will come to an end in Apr 1993, leaving many married women redundant. Between 50% to 75% of the PSA workforce will be made redundant when privatisation takes place. Many employees are waiting to see who their new boss will be before they decide to remain as full-time staff.

Building partnerships
Article Abstract:
Poor relations between UK construction companies and institutions has been self-imposed. The UK construction has a high rate of litigation. Close cooperation between construction companies and institutions need to be fostered for business efficiency and for a more successful government lobbying system. Joint ventures decrease disputes; guarantees better payment; shares costs and enables expansion into foreign markets. Joint ventures could replace main contractors in the future. A single construction industry employers' confederation need to be established.
