DOE outlines 'truth-in-labeling' plan
Article Abstract:
The Energy Department has confirmed plans to implement a "truth-in-labeling" policy that would require energy firms that sell electricity to follow a format in labeling direct mail pieces and other promotional materials once the industry is deregulated. The label that the department is considering may include basic contract terms, source of power and price of electricity. In case of a telemarketing promotions, energy companies will be asked to send consumers direct mail piece that contains the required data as a follow-up. The Energy Department's concept is similar to that of the FDA food and nutritional labelling system.
