MSFDC of Englewood, CO, a joint-integrated service of Microsoft Corp. and First Data Corp., announces that several major utilities and billers have enlisted themselves for its services. The service allows businesses bill customers and receive payments using the Internet. Meanwhile, Financial Services Technology Consortium also reports that it has delivered its first electronic check to GTE Internetworking. The check, which uses digital signature, is the preliminary step in a 12-month trial of e-check technology. The announcements mark the growth of electronic methods of payments and information dissemination. Postal officials are showing concern with the new technology as bills, payments, remittances cover about $10 billion to $15 billion of their business.
