Economic cloud doesn't block the sun in Miami
Article Abstract:
Many exhibitors at the 2001 Miami International Boat Show expect strong sales at the trade show, despite a slowing US economy and Outboard Marine's bankruptcy. Cathy Johnson, southern regional manager of the National Marine Manufacturers Assn, says initial exhibitor feedback indicates 2001 sales would be strong, despite a decrease in attendance. The trade show and the Strictly Sail-Miami was held on Feb 15-20, 2001, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Sealine Marina and the Yachting Center and Miamarina at Bayside.

Changing times: tax credit, not luxury tax
Article Abstract:
The Boat Building Investment Act of 1999, introduced in the US House of Representatives in Feb 1999, by Rep Patrick Kennedy, seeks to aid in the recovery of the nation's boatbuilding industry. The proposed law aims to give buyers of luxury boats made in the US a 20% income tax credit, which will not exceed $2 million. The legislation also proposes the provision of federal funds for the training of yacht builders who will help US companies become more competitive with foreign manufacturers.
