Thinking Media Corp, a transactional banner firm, questioned the Excite@Home's assertions that the latter's Enliven unit created the first database-connected banner ads whose content can be put up in real time. Thinking Media has been creating Net ads with the same capabilities since 1997, according to Don Westrich, director of business development at Thinking Media, New York, NY.

Home Depot lets consumers trade stock through its Web site

Home improvement retail chain Home Depot Inc of Atlanta, GA, has launched its DepotDirect interactive stock purchase plan. The program allows users to register, order and pay for shares on its Web Site without the assistance of an online or traditional brokerage. The program was created by Internet investor services firm Stock Power Inc of San Francisco, CA. Stock Power's StockClick service provides the online component to the companies' direct stock purchase plans.
