FedEx slowdown looms over holidays
Article Abstract:
Federal Express is seeing catalogers create alternative delivery plans as the freight forwarder and consolidator faces a possible slowdown, plus a pilot strike during the holidays in 1998. The pilot association's board of director cited the unacceptable phase in the contract discussions in voting to implement a no-overtime flying policy for its members starting November 9, 1998. The union, representing 3,595 pilots or 90% of FedEx pilots, is seeking a new labor contract that includes salary hikes, job protection and enhancements in the retirement package.
