IBM to boost its direct sales focus
Article Abstract:
IBM will include small to medium-size businesses in its new direct marketing campaign with the goal of making direct sales account up to as much as 50% of its revenues by 2002. Rick Thompson, IBM's director of marketing in the US, said an increasing number of small businesses wanted to have a direct relationship with them. These businesses do not want to deal with middlemen but would rather talk directly with professionals who know the products. He added that IBM adopted the strategy after noting that retail channels are not good at marketing to small businesses.
