Firm sees transition after loss in 2000

Telemarketing firm TeleSpectrum registered a net loss of $21.8 million in FY 2000 but CEO J Peter Pierce believes the company will recover in FY 2001. It earned revenues of $303.5 million in FY 2000, up from $266.8 million in FY 1999. However, TeleSpectrum got mired in management turnover, increased costs and reduced work volume from several clients. For FY 2001, TeleSpectrum expects to earn between $250 to $275 million. It is also integrating its outbound and inbound operations to reduce costs.

Texas DNC bill passes Senate, heads governor
Article Abstract:
A do-not-call bill (DNC) in Texas has passed the final step of the legislative process and will be sent to the governor for approval. The bill, sponsored by Rep Burt Solomons, will charge telemarketers $500 per violation of the DNC list. Consumers will be charged $3 for registration and their names willremain on the list for three years. The list will be updated quarterly and be available to telemarketers for $75. Unless vetoed by the governor, the bill would take effect on Jan 1, 2002.

Telemarketers await no - call action by FTC
Article Abstract:
The Federal Trade Commission has not taken any punitive action on the telemarketers who violate the do not - call list. The telemarketers question the agency's inaction for this long and hope that there will be an announcement soon on the fines for violations.
