Football, baseball bring displaced fans home
Article Abstract:
The National Football League (NFL) and Major League Baseball (MLB) have started direct marketing efforts geared towards 'displaced fans,' or those who live far from their favorite teams. The NFL will start mailing mail- order catalogs that will feature jerseys with the name and number of the first-round draft picks during its player draft on Apr 21-22, 2000. On the other hand, MLB.com Advanced Media has formed a $20-million alliance with RealNetworks for the creation of a baseball site that will offer $9.95 subscriptions to baseball for the radio broadcasts of their favorite teams' games.
