Hotel catalog tests its appeal with hurried travelers

Hotel Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica, CA, expects its boutique shop catalog, titled 'Accessories to Memories Last Month,' will appeal to customers who are in a hurry. Introduced in Jan 2001, the 5.5-in-by-8.5-in, eight-page catalog is printed on heavy postcard paper and features only 23 items grouped into four categories, namely Relax, Fashion, for the Kids and Toast. The hotel printed 2,500 copies of the catalog and is using the launch as a test to measure interest in the catalog, which is not being mailed, but instead is being placed in the hotel's guest rooms, restaurants and gift shop.

BMW unveils new lifestyle catalog

BMW has unveiled the 2000 edition of BMW Lifestyle catalog which provides a glimpse of a new line of casual clothing and accessories. The 84-page catalog is amed at luring customers to BMW showrooms or its Web site. It has morre than 150 products with prices that range from $8 for a tie tack to $3,995 for a bicycle. Around 75,000 catalogs were distributed and mailed in Sep 2000 through retail distribution at showrooms. The catalog's target audience is primarily BMW owners, those aspiring to own the luxury vehicle and those giving gifts to people in either group.

Funeral home uses catalog to address difficult subject

Heffner Funeral Homes and Crematory found that catalogs are a successful sales tool. The funeral home chain uses catalogs as part of its funeral preplanning strategy. The company targets people 45 and older. The core population is those 65 and older who are preplanning their funerals. Catalogs are distributed only to those people who have contacted Heffner. Sales representatives who do home preplanning appointments also distribute catalogs.
